I am 45 years old, married (16 years this past September 2009), and have 3 daughters – Sarah, age 13; Caroline, age 10; and Emma, age 5. We also have a 13 year old cat named Jazz and two cats, a boy and a girl from the same litter, named Oliver and Mixy respectively, who will be a year old in November, 2009.
My family and I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina on March 25th, 2006. More like we were driven out of Massachusetts. You see, as a citizen of the United States with a middle class income, it became increasingly difficult to continue to live in Massachusetts. My family and I have been struggling for years, living paycheck-to-paycheck, unable to get ahead financially. When my in-laws decided in 2001 that they were going to move to North Carolina when they retire in 2007, my wife Jenn began doing research to see if it was feasible for us to move there as well.
I'd lived in New England all my life and was used to the lifestyle, financially unstable as it was. My friends are all in Massachusetts, and most of Jenn's family -- aunts, uncles and cousins -- lives in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. So, at first, the idea of moving 900 miles away from the place I knew all my life to a place I'd never been before did not sit well with me. I didn't want to leave my friends. I worked for a great company. But there was just no way we could survive on my salary alone. And I knew, even if Jenn and I both worked full time in Massachusetts, it would not be enough for us to be able to ever afford a house and all the expenses that come with putting our kids in childcare. So the more information Jenn found from her research of North Carolina in general and Charlotte in particular -- seeing that our salaries would remain the same while the cost of living, housing prices, and childcare would be much more affordable -- the more the idea of moving to the South became more palatable.
So during a trip to Charlotte the week of February 20th, 2006 to search for jobs, Jenn was able to land a job as a Nanny. I quit my job in Massachusetts after working at that job for a year-and-a-half. We took four weeks to pack up our belongings and we moved the family here. We are now residents of Monroe, North Carolina, a town southeast of Charlotte.
I am currently working as a Records Specialist for a law firm in Charlotte.
OK, on to the rest of my life's history and interests...
I attended North Shore Community College for two and a half years and received an Associate's Degree in Science, Majoring in Accounting, on May 27th, 2004.
My wife, Jenn, had Gastric Bypass Surgery on May 21st, 2003. On the one year anniversary of her surgery and only two weeks after giving birth to Emma, Jenn had lost a total of 125 pounds! I am so proud of her!
I am an avid fan of the Back To The Future Trilogy. So much so, that I am a message board moderator of a very popular website at http://www.BTTF.com. I feel very honored and privileged to be a moderator, however, more recently the board appears to run itself with no major issues from spammers, hackers or trolls.
I once proclaimed here in my profile that I was not a geek regardless of the fact that I liked BTTF. However, I think I was in denial. Therefore, I hereby officially proclaim my geekness in the BTTF Fandom! (Great Scott!)
I am a beta reader for
foxywriter (aka: Kristen Sheley), a self-published author living in California. Her Partners in Time Series is about the life of Sam Foster, a 15-year old teen who invents a time machine out of a Discman. After many tries and many tests to create one, Sam realizes his dream. However, on his first trip to 1850, he encounters a cougar ready to pounce on him. He returns to 2005 quickly, but in his resulting trip back he accidentally brings back a girl, Meg Clayton -- also 15 years old -- to his time. We find out that the cougar was actually preparing to attack Meg, but Sam inadvertantly saves her life. I have beta read two of Kristen's four novels in the PIT series -- PIT3: Future Shock and PIT4: Family Matters -- and contributed to the writing of the tagline and synopsis of PIT3: Future Shock. As of October 7th, 2009, I am beta reading her fifth novel.
I'm an avid Patriots, Red Sox and Bruins fan and I play Yahoo! fantasy sports year-round in all three of the aforementioned teams pro leagues. I used to watch the Bruins and Patriots regularly. But with the move to North Carolina, games from up north are seldom broadcast here. I do keep a constant vigil of their progress on various Internet websites throughout the year.
