QUALIFICATIONS:
1.) You must be an LJ user who has been active for at least 6 months. No recent sign-ups just to try to view my journal. And I'd like to see that you make an effort to post at least a couple times a week on average, if not more. Granted, I'm guilty of not posting that often on occasion. But as of this writing (on November 20th, 2007) I've averaged a little over one post per day (1,785 posts in 1,631 days). That more than qualifies me as someone who makes an effort.
2.) You should be in good standing with your fellow LJ friends and have at least five on your list. I may consult with one or more of them to see if you are "nice" to them. Consider your LJ Friends list your list of references, similar to the list you would provide to an employer when applying for a job. Don't worry. I'm not going to drill them for info. But there are people who have blogs just to have one or are not respectful to other fellow bloggers. I want to make sure you are on the up-and-up.
3.) Your journal should contain meaningful entries, IMHO. In other words, I'd like to get to know you through your journal and be able to get a sense of who you are as a person. Here are some guidelines:
a.) Your entries should be entertaining enough to keep my interest. And I'm a hard person to please when it comes to reading anything -- books, newspapers, magazines and blogs.
b.) The occasional posting of lyrics to a song is fine if it has meaning to and pertains to the specific entry it references. But posts like "I just love this song! Here are the lyrics!" don't fly with me. It will promptly be skipped over. There are enough websites that contain the lyrics to songs. So post the link to it if you'd like to offer up a quick reference to the song.
c.) If you've got common sense, you know that posting senseless garbage on a regular basis is no fun to read. lIkE wHeN pEoPlE tYpE cApS aNd SmAlL tExT and think that you'll find that amusing. No. It's not. If it's done occasionally, I can tolerate it. But regularly? Um, again...no.
d.) I don't mind the occasional meme. But daily memes bore me.
Tough qualifications, for sure. I'm not asking you to cater to my specifications. After all, it's your journal, not mine. I have fallen off the bandwagon on occasion by not following my own guidelines and have overstepped boundaries with some of my LJ Friends. So I do understand that not everyone is perfect. All I ask if I friend you is that you be respectful.
One more thing -- It's unnerving to wonder if your LJ Friends are still alive when they don't post regularly. So if you do not post for a while, expect the occasional nudge. Again, I'm as guilty of neglecting to post on a regular basis as anyone. Feel free to nudge me if you don't feel I'm posting enough. I'll at least respond by saying "[so-and-so] nudged me for not posting. Here's an update..."
Please allow 4-to-6 weeks for friending to commence. (OK, maybe not quite that long. But don't pressure me to friend you or it simply won't happen.)
Finally, if I have found and chosen to friend you first, then you are one of the lucky few who get to see my insignificant-to-the-world-but-significa
